What do you do when you feel down?
“It was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.”
Have you ever had one of those days, like Alexander from one of my favorite childhood books, “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day"? You know the kind of day — you slept poorly, were running late all day, got caught in the rain storm, wanted to scream in traffic, felt unappreciated by your boss and family, and couldn’t find where you put your keys. Everything seems to go wrong, and all you want to do is crawl back under the covers.🙈
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and I’m here to remind you peeling back those covers to get up and dance might just be your secret weapon on those tough days!
This month, let's celebrate the power of dance to boost our mental well-being. We all know Zumba is a fantastic way to care for our bodies, but the benefits reach far beyond just our physique. When we dance, our brains release endorphins and dopamine, those feel-good chemicals that leave us happier and less stressed 🤩. Plus, focusing on the rhythm and movement can be a form of mindfulness, helping us stay present and let go of worries, even if temporarily😮💨.
There have been countless days where I've walked into class feeling stressed, frustrated, or even on the verge of tears. But, honestly, as soon as the music starts and I see all of your smiling faces ready to move, or l take moments to close my eyes and just FEEL the music, something magical happens. So, while bad moods might make it tempting to hide away, hitting the dance floor is exactly what I need most!
This May join me in celebrating caring for our minds and hearts while we break a sweat! Here are a few ideas:
😁 Join a group Zumba class: Beat feelings of isolation and disconnect when you join a group class. Smiles ARE contagious!
😁 Zumba party at home! Check out my ever growing list of OnDemand classes and create your own dance party. This month’s new “ Free 2 B U” class focuses on simple choreography and lots of chances to let loose and freestyle!
😁 Zumba and chill: Put on upbeat songs from class on my Spotify playlist here while you're cleaning, cooking, or running errands. You'll get your steps in while boosting your mood – a win-win!
Let's make May a month of movement, laughter, and mental well-being. See you on the dance floor!
Keep moving!
xx,
Katie
