6 Ways to Sneak in More Movement this Lunar New Year šŸ

Only a few more days until the Lunar New Year begins!

Are you ready?

With a week or more of festive gatherings, precious time with loved ones, and disruptions to our regular routines, itā€™s no wonder so manyĀ  love the holiday while simultaneously lamenting the worn out feeling we anticipate havingĀ  after the break.Ā

I know I personally dread returning to class the more days in a row I spend glued in front of the TV or dinner table for hours on end. Still, this season is all about enjoyment, and who wants to sit out on festivities?

What if instead of thinking about cutting out the fun, the food, or the holiday feeling, we think about what we can ADD to the holiday that will leave us feeling even better?

Well, you KNOW that movement always tops my list of activities that energize and enhance my days!

Check out these 6 easy ways to sneak in more movement this Lunar New Year!

  • Clean Up!Ā We all know tidying the house and sweeping away the bad luck from the previous year is an important step in preparing for the holiday. But did you know this counts as N.E.A.T, non-exercise activity thermogenesis, or towards your total energy expenditure each day? Thatā€™s a reason to really scrub each and every corner before Lunar New Year!

  • Take a Stroll!Ā Ā Inspire your other family members (particularly those who are less active) by encouraging them to join you for light ten minute walks after your meals. There may be big benefits for even short walks after meals such as improved digestion, blood sugar regulation, blood pressure regulation and more!

  • Ā Be One of the Kids! Have little ones in your family? Simply getting up and down off the floor to play, trying to keep up with them on the playground rather than sitting on the sidelines, or even bringing them to a fun dance class like my Family Moves by Katie class on 2/4 will keep you surprisingly active!

  • Donā€™t Just Sit There, Stretch There!Ā Ā It's likely that you will find yourself sitting around a table whether to eat and chat or to play mahjong. Sitting for long periods usually causes soreness and improper posture. Check out this video of simple stretches you and your family can do to break up hours of playing mahjong!

Ā Ā

  • Be a Tenacious Traveller! Heading on a road trip or traveling abroad? In addition to stretches you can do (see above!) while seated, seek out more movement. Take the stairs whenever possible or carry manageable bags to engage muscles andĀ  offset all the sitting youā€™ll be doing.

  • Dance, dance, dance! You know my FAVORITE way to keep moving is with dance. And with the return of my Lunar Light Up Program you have 9 days to dance at home with all your loved ones! Grab grandma and try Golden Oldies Groove. Challenge your childā€™s balance with Balance Boost, or get the entire family to dance with you to my Lunar Light Up 20 minute Zumba class. For only 688nt youā€™ll have unlimited access to 25 Zumba classes of different lengths and levels to enjoy until we resume in-person class February 4th!

As always, Iā€™m here to keep you moving through a happy and healthy Lunar New Year ahead!

Keep moving!

xx,

Katie
